How to not give up.
Nietzsche said “he who has a why can bear almost any how”. Define your why, it is the truth that corses through your veins. We all have our individual truths. How much would you dream if you knew you could never fail but only prosper?
For me I think of acres and acres of land, helping humanity in beautiful landscapes to detoxify from all the distraction. I think of making coffee on the fire, cooking beautiful cuts of beef in the sun.
This is my happiness, my own piece of heaven. I imagine you may be in the state of mind where you can only think of hardship, struggle and loss. You may have good reason for that but you can not change your past. We all get in a frame of mind which may produce anxiety and cause us to give up on our vision. Sometimes it is so hard to imagine a world where everything is perfect in your life. Rome was not built in a day.
Try these thought exercises:
Imagine you are a King/Queen walking down the street and everyone around you has built everything around you for you.
Imagine you are the leader of a big company where you help improve the world in whatever capacity you wish.
Imagine if you could just fly through the air.
Why is the last one so childish to you? When was the last time you thought like that? Unfortunately we have been separated from such a wild imagination. We are taught that conformity and obedience breeds happiness through security. We are taught to be servants to our overlords, to pay with our time with blood, toil and tears. A lot of society lacks its true purpose and they fall victim to crime or disputes.
We are so lucky to be alive, to be on this Earth and we don’t even know how we are here. Isn’t that such beauty? Just existing listening to your favourite song, tasting your favourite food or looking at your loved ones. Being able to walk, speak, laugh, sing and cry. The fact you can think and chose between what you want to do and what you won’t accept is beauty itself.
Look at the walls around you, the scenery, how many years of life had to exist to get to the best system we have ever had? The clothes you are wearing, someone designed them, made them and someone transported them.
You may be out there working on your education, on yourself, your family, your identity or hustling to get by. However, gratitude is the way forward, dreaming is the way forward and thinking good. Good Thoughts , Good Words, Good Deeds - the motto of Zoroastrianism.
